Council 1382 Funds Bouncy Play Houses for Sept 16 2018 Parish Picnic

Grand Knight Bob Langenhorst announced that funds from weekly BINGO will be used to rent the Bouncy Play Houses for the St. Mary Carlyle Parish Picnic in Sept. 2018.  This is the second year that Council 1382 will pay for the rental.

$350 Breakfast Donation for Mater Dei Tuition

Bob Lemanski (Breakfast Chairman) is shown presenting a check for $350 to Mr. Dennis Litteken, Principal of Mater Dei High School, for Council 1382's breakfast donation for Mater Dei tuition for 16 students from the Carlyle Council 1382 area.

Breakfast for Christmas Lights in the Park (Carlyle)

Shown are the volunteers who helped bus tables at the K of C Council 1382 Sausage and Pancake Breakfast on Aug 19 to benefit Christmas Lights in the Park (Carlyle).  We had a large turnout at the breakfast and a great group of volunteers!

$250 Donation to Carlyle Fire Protection District 4th Annual Golf Tournament

Council 1382 members voted at the July membership meeting to become a "Fireman Sponsor" for the Carlyle Fire Protection District 4th Annual Golf Tournament.  Herb Pingsterhaus is shown presenting the check to the fine men shown with him!.

$100 Donation to Clinton County Relay for Life

The members voted at the July membership meeting to donate per a request from Coral Fouteh to the August 2018 Clinton County Relay for Life in Breese.  The check IS in the mail!

New Grand Knight/ Deputy Grand Knight/ Misc Officers for 2018

Carlyle Baby Shower

The Carlylle Knights of Columbus Council 1382 held its Eighth Annual Baby Shower at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle and St. Teresa's in Marydale during the month of May.  Items received were donated to the Pregnancy Care Clinic in Centralia.  Pictured are David and Marilyn Athmer of St. Teresa Parish; Jim Seiffert, K of C co-chairman; Clare Seiffer of St. Mary Parish; Linda Dabney of the Pregnancy Care Clinic; and Paul Kauling , K of C co-chairman and his wife Jan. 

$500 Breakfast Donation to Chakota Therapeutic Riding Center

Proceeds from the May 2018 K of C Council 1382 Sausage and Pancake Breakfast were donated to the Cahkota Therapeutic Riding Center.  Volunteers form the center helped bus tables (see earlier picture).

$100 Donation to Pedal for Autism

The council voted, at the June membership meeting, to donate $100 to the Illinois Center for Autism to be a T-shirt Sponsor for the Pedal for Autism fundraising bike ride on August 18.

Knight of the Year Award Presented for Council 1382

Catching up on years of no Knight of the Year awards, another member of Council 1382 was presented with the award.  Jim Etter was presented the award at the membership meeting June 14, 2018.  GK Bob Diekemper presented the award to recognize all of Jim's volunteer efforts over the last several years.

Honorary Life Membership

Deputy GK Bob Langenhorst is presented an Honorary Life Membership Card by GK Bob Diekemper at the membership meeting on June 14, 2018.  Members who have attained the actual age of 70 years and who have been members of the Order for 25 consecutive years, and those who have been members of the Order for 50 consecutive years, regardless of age, are designated as honorary life members.

$490 Donated from April Breakfast to Newman Catholic Center Sq. Foot Challenge

$490 of the proceeds from the K of C Carlyle Council 1382 Sausage and Pancake Breakfast for K of C Charities were donated to the Newman Catholic Student Center at SIU-C for their Sq. Foot Challenge.  Over $45K of the $60K goal has been raised to remove or encapsulate asbestos tile and renovate the center!  Our donation helps to renovate 49 sq. ft. of space.  If you want to help decide what charities your council donates to, you need to come to the meetings (2nd Thursday of every month at 7:45pm).  

Knight of the Year Awards Presented for Council 1382

At the monthly membership meeting on April 12 2018, Grand Knight Bob Diekemper presented Knight of the Year Awards to 3 members of our council.  No Knight of the Year awards have been presented in the last several years.  The recipients were Herb Pingsterhaus (Columbian Club president and dedicated volunteer), Bob Langenhorst (BINGO Chairman and dedicated volunteer), and Ray Rainey (Past Breakfast Chariman and dedicated volunteer).  Shown in the picture are L-R:  Ray Rainey, Herb Pingsterhaus, Bob Diekemper, and Bob Langenhorst.  Congratulations and thanks for your dedication to our council!

Two New Members Join Council: C. Schroeder & B. Essington

Cletus Schroeder and Blake Essington received their first degree initiation on April 3 and were admitted to our council on April 12 2018 when their Form 100s were completed filled out and signed.  Please welcome these gentlemen to our council!

Breakfast Donation to Mater Dei and Carlyle High School Post Proms

Proceeds from the March Pancake and Sausage Breakfast were donated to Mater Dei and Carlyle High School Post Proms.  $250 were given to each school.  Thanks to all the volunteers who worked at the breakfast, including students representing the schools.

Students from Carlyle finish high in K of C Regional Spelling Bee

The Knights of Columbus Regional Spelling Bee was held on 3-24-18.  Our council had all three spellers attend. There was a total of 26 spellers attending. After many rounds, there were 5 spellers remaining.  Three of the five were from Carlyle.
Derissa Whitfield, 8th grader, won First place.  Liz Ford, 8th grader, won Third place and Radly Scales was tied for Fourth.  Darissa and Liz will now go to the state championship on April 7 at Chatham.
Congrats to the spellers and to Mrs. Natale Siever, the spelling coach at Carlyle Jr. High.

$570 Donation to Carlyle Ministerial Alliance

The Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council 1382 is donating $570 to the Carlyle Ministerial Alliance from the proceeds of the February Pancake and Sausage Breakfast.  Pictured at the presentation are Fr. Donation to Matthew 25 Food Pantry

Honorary Membership Attained by Terry Cardwell

Terry Cardwell received his honorary membership card from GK Bob Diekemper on Tuesday night March 6, 2018.  Shown L-R:  B. Langenhorst, H. Pingsterhaus, B. Diekemper, T. Cardwell, M. Hodapp, J. Wellinghoff.  To be an honorary member, you must be 65 years old and have continuous service of 25 years.  For council 1382, your dues are then reduced.  To be an Honorary Life Member, with no dues, you must be 70 years old with 25 years of continuous service.  If you have received either of these milestones and would like your picture on the website, please bring your card to a membership meeting.

Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee for Youth 2018

This year's spelling bee at Carlyle Junior High School was held on February 13, 2018.  The contestants from 8th Grade - Liz Ford and Derissa Whitfield; 7th Grade - Abi Linton and Jordan Kleiboeker; 6th Grade- Radly Scales and Kaylyn Rakers; 5th Grade- Faith Weaver and Grace Edler. It took 16 rounds to determine the top 3 students who will attend the Regional Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee in Aviston. ( The date has not been determined yet) The First Place winner was 8th grader Liz Ford, Second Place was 8th grader Derissa Whitfield, and Third Place was 6th grader Radly Scales.

Donation to Hincke House for Retired Priests

$400 of the proceeds from the January 2018 breakfast for retired priests and nuns were donated to the Hincke House for Retired Priests in Belleville.  Shown with the big check are workers from the Feb. 18 breakfast, L to R:  M. Donation to Benedictine Sisters in Clyde Missouri

$200 of the proceeds from the January 2018 breakfast for retired priests and nuns were donated to the Benedictine Sisters in Clyde Missouri.  Sr. Dorothy Kordick is the most senior resident at the convent!  She is an aunt to the Financial Secretary of Carlyle Council 1382.

Donation to City of Carlyle to sponsor youth sports team

At the February monthly membership meeting, Council 1382 voted to donate $100 to the City of Carlyle to sponsor a youth baseball or softball team!

Council 1382 Free Throw Championship Boys Winners 2018

Council 1382 Free Throw Championship Girls Winners 2018

Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest Participants

Twelve local kids participated in the Carlyle Council 1382 Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest in December 2017.  Four posters were selected as winners to be passed on to the district level.  See earlier news and announcements for winners, and see photo gallery for pictures of the four winning posters.  Thanks to Ellen Knolhoff for coordinating this effort.

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship Local Youth Competition Jan. 17 2018

Council 1382 will host a local boys and girls (ages 9-14) Free Throw competition at St. Mary Gym starting at 8pm.  Registrations forms should be filled out before 8pm and can be picked up prior to the event at St. Mary Carlyle parish hall, Carlyle Elementary office, and Carlyle Jr. High office.  Please come to St. Mary Gym early to register if you haven't already picked up and filled out a form to bring.

$500 from the November K of C Breakfast was donated to the Newman Center at SIU-Carbondale.

Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest 2017

Ellen Knolhoff organized the poster contest again this year.  Four posters out of 12 entries were passed on to the district competition.  Those 4 entries were submitted by Ella Smith (Grade 1), Gannon Meyer (Grade 3), Phoenix Mendoza (Grade 4) and Kendyl Meyer (Grade 5).  Carlyle council members Bob Diekemper, Paul Kauling, Ron Kordick, and Kevin Wesselmann served as judges.  See pictures of the winning posters in the Keep Christ in Christmas photo gallery on this website.  

IDD Donations Distributed to 6 Charities.

The Intellectual Disabilities Drive (IDD) tootsie roll donations were distributed to six charities.  Show here - Herb and Ron presented a check to Betty Brumfield and frieda at Warren G. Murray Center.  See Photo Gallery for pictures!

Hodapp Benefit at Columbian Club Nov. 10 2017

A benefit was held for Mark Hodapp at the Columbian Club to help pay medical expenses.  The band "Hair Syndicate" performed and a raffle and silent auction items were included.  GK Bob Diekemper spoke and presented Mark with a certificate and Past Grand Knight ball cap for his 5 years of GK service.  Bob also thanked Melanie Hamilton for her work in organizing the event.  Thanks Melanie!

October Breakfast Donation for CHS Booster Club

Intelectual Disabilities Drive 2017: Mission Accomplished

Council 1382 completed our 2017 Intellectual Disabilities Drive (IDD) this past weekend, distributing over 3500 tootsie rolls and bringing in around $5000 for charities.  Herb Pingsterhaus and Ron Kordick co-chaired the event again this year!

$500 to Katie Robben/ Holy Cross Mission Center - Uganda

The Knights of Columbus Carlyle Council 1382 donated $500 to to help Katie Robben through the Holy Cross Mission Center. Katie is originally from Breese and is back home visiting Clinton County to raise funds for her ministry to help local families begin income generating activities in Uganda. $500 Donation to Mater Dei Scholarship Fund

The Knights of Columbus Carlyle Council 1382’s July 16 Breakfast was for the Mater Dei Scholarship Fund. The council voted to donate all proceeds from this breakfast plus more, totaling $500, to this fund to support Catholic education. This money is to be used to assist in tuition for Carlyle students attending Mater Dei. Ray (on right) is shown presenting the check to Mater Dei Principal Dennis Litteken.

Columbian Club Lunch Changes M-Th

Note that the Columbian Club no longer offers plate lunches Monday-Thursdays.  Now they will open at noon (instead of 11am) M-Th and offer soup and sandwiches instead of plate lunches.  Posted August 8 2017.

Robert E. "Bob" Buchheit, 69 of Carlyle, Ill., passed away at Legacy Place in Breese, Ill., on Monday, July 17, 2017.

Breaking News - New Council 1382 Officers elected for 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018

We've elected Bob Diekemper as Grand Knight to replace Mark Hodapp.  THANKS to Mark for staying on well beyond  his expected duration.  Bob Langenhorst was elected Deputy Grand Knight, and Henry Rowell was elected Chancellor. Mark Hodapp becomes 3 Yr. Trustee. Jim Etter becomes 2 Yr. Trustee. All other positions remain filled as before.

Successful Baby Shower 2017

The Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council 1382 held its Seventh Annual Baby Shower at St. Mary Church in Carlyle and St. Teresa in Marydale during the month of May. Items received were donated to the Pregnancy Care Clinic in Centralia. Pro-Life Baby Shower

Carlyle Council 1382 is sponsoring a Pro Life Baby Shower during May.  The purpose is to collect baby items to benefit expectant mothers who might otherwise choose abortion and also to benefit the unborn who might not otherwise be given a "Right to Life".  We are seeking donations of new baby clothing, layette items, diapers, bottles, formula, toys, baby food, etc.  Items can be left at St. Mary Church, Carlyle, and/or at St. Teresa's Church in Marydale.  If you'd like to give a monetary donation, make check payable to Pregnancy Care Center in the collection basket.  Please use a separate envelope clearly marked "Pregnancy Care Center".  All donations will be taken to the Pregnancy Care Center, 113 South Lincoln Blvd., Centralia IL 62801.  This organization is Pro-Life and is funded by donations and serves our area.  (This is the 7th year Council 1382 is participating in this worthwhile program, an annual program of the Illinois K of C's, to improve human life in our area.)

Donations Given for Post Prom Activities at Carlyle and Mater Dei High Schools

$250 was donated to each high School (to Angie Hicks at Mater Dai and Joni Dorff at CHS) for post prom activities.  These monies were raised from the Council 1382 Sausage and Pancake Breakfast in March.  Bob Lemanski took over, from Ray Rainey, as chairman of the breakfasts

Donation to Carlyle Fire Protection District

Council 1382 Knights voted at the April membership meeting to donate $215 to the CFPD to support the National Fire Safety council a program which distributes fire safety materials to children (and adults) in our community. Donation for Community Link Program Buddy Walk

Bingo chairman Bob Langenhorst presented Heather Holthaus a donation of $200 for the Heather Angels. This team is participating in the Buddy Walk on May 6 for the Community Link Program. Also in the picture is Heather's grandmother, Josephine Winkler. Heather and her grandmother are regular players at the Wednesday Bingo's.

K of C Free Throw Championship 2017 Final UPDATE

Congratulations to Ethan Wheelan and Faith Weaver of Carlyle! Faith won 1st place in the Age 9 Girls grouping at the Breese Regional Free Throw, and Ethan won 2nd place in the Age 9 Boys grouping at the Breese Regional Free Throw AND he won 2nd place in the same grouping at the State Free Throw Championship Finals!!

Spelling Bee FINAL Update - Nathan Hilmes and Madison Szczeblewski place in state!

Once again we had success at the regional K of C spelling bee. Madison Szczeblewski was the second place winner and Nathan Hilmes won third place. Cody Mueller also participated but went out in the 8th round. Madison and Nathan will now go to the state finals which will be held in April at Chatham, IL.

FINAL UPDATE -   Congratulations to our two Carlyle Jr. High students who represented our council at the State K of C spelling bee. Nathan Hilmes was the third place winner. He is the son of Bruce and Stacy Hilmes and grandson of our member, Bernie Hilmes. Madison Szczeblewski was the fourth place winner. She is the daughter of Jay and Dana Szczeblewski and the granddaughter of our member, Joe Timmermann. We have had students participate in the state finals before but these are the highest winners that we have had. Congratulations also to their teacher, Patti Tate and Carlyle Jr. High school. 

Services for Laverne Lowe

Laverne H. Lowe, 80, of Carlyle, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Carlyle Healthcare Center.  A rosary was held by the Knights of Columbus Carlyle Council 1382, led by A Wobbe with the following in attendance:  R. Diekemper, Dcn. J. Hempen, P. Kauling, R. Kordick, R. Langenhorst, G. Kuhl, R. Petermeyer, and R. Wellinghoff.  See picture of Knights with one of Laverne's prized possessions.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle.

A donation of $400 from the February sausage and pancake breakfast were donated to the Carlyle Ministerial Alliance.

$300 Donated to local Boy Scout Flag Project!

$300 from the January Sausage and Breakfast pancake were donated to John Lappe (a local Boy Scout) for his Eagle Scout project.  The donation is only one contribution toward the scout's total goal of $2500 needed to replace the worn flags that fly in Carlyle on holidays.

Services for Clarence Krebs

Clarence H. Krebs, age 93 of Carlyle, passed away on February 13, 2017.  A rosary by fellow Knights of Columbus Council 1382 was held on Feb 24 led by Arnie Wobbe with the following in attendance:  Bob Diekemper, Dennis R. Hempen, John Hempen, Norb Holthaus, Paul and Jan Kauling, Ron Kordick, J.B. Krebs, Herb Pingsterhaus, Ray Rainey, Arnold Schmeink, Jim Seiffert, Rich Wellinghoff and Jack Wuebbles.  A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck officiating. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carlyle.  Visitation was on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4 until 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 8 until 9:45 AM at Nordike Funeral Home in Carlyle.     www.nordikefuneralhome.com

Spelling Bee 2017

The annual Carlyle Junior High Spelling Bee sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of Carlyle was held on Friday, February 3. Grade level competitions were held, and 2 finalists from each grade level advanced to compete in the All-School Bee.

The top three spellers in the CJHS All-School Bee will advance to Regionals March 18, in Aviston, Illinois.  See photos and names of finalists and contenders in our photo gallery.

K of C Spelling Bee

Our Council's spelling bee was conducted on February 3 at Carlyle Jr. High School.  The participatants were 8th graders Madison Szczblewski and Nathan Hilmes; 7th graders Jackson Hoffman and Cody Mueller; 6th graders Lizzy Morgan and Lauren Gentry; 5th graders Ryder Schwahn and Wil Harris.  The winners who will go to the regional at Aviston on March 18 are Nathan Hilmes 1st place, Madion Szczblewski 2nd place and Cody Mueller 3rd place.  Family and friends are welcome to attend the regional held at Aviston Grade School starting at 1 P.M.  The K of C want to thank these students as well as teacher Patty Tate for their cooperation and hard work. 

Super Bowl Party Held at Columbian Club Feb 5 2017

A Super Bowl Party was held at the Columbian Club with over 20 folks in attendance during the big game.  Donna provided prizes and served drinks, including shots after every score!  A potluck buffet was available too.  

Update: Local (and District) Youth Free Throw Championship Winners Announced

Twenty-four kids participated over 5 different age groups for the local Council 1382 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.  Winners were:  Age 9 - Faith Weaver, Ethan Wheelan;  Age 10 - Ella Rolfingsmeyer, Joshua Vonder Haar;  Age 11 - Emma Meyer, Sam Ruscher;  Age 12 - Ian Simonton;  Age 14 - Camden Snow.  Winners advance to the district competition on Feb. 11, at 9am at St Lawrence Gym in Sandoval.  See photo gallery for other photos.

The District 87 contest was held on February 11 in Sandoval. Faith Weaver, Ethan Wheelan, and Emma Meyer from Carlyle also won at District and now advance to the regional level of competition on March 18 at Mater Dei HS in Breese.

 

Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship Local Youth Competition Jan. 18 2017

Council 1382 will host a local boys and girls (ages 9-14) Free Throw competition at St. Mary Gym starting at 8pm.  Registrations forms should be filled out before 8pm and can be picked up prior to the event at St. Mary Carlyle parish hall, Carlyle Elementary office, and Carlyle Jr. High office.  Please come to St. Mary Gym early to register if you haven't already picked up and filled out a form to bring.

Volunteer to join a weekly crew or sell tickets for a few hours per night.  Contact Gary Kampwerth for information.  The last planning meeting is at the Columbian Club on Jan. 5 2017 at 7pm.  Be there if you care!

K of C State Convention April 21-23, 2017

Please wear your Council 1382 shirts to Mass on the 3rd weekends of Jan, Feb, Mar, and Apr 2017, to acknowledge the upcoming State Convention.  Our District Deputy, Marc Oehmke mentioned at our council meeting on Jan. 12, that the state council suggested each council pick a weekend every month to wear their shirts to Mass in advance of the convention.

Keep Christ in Christmas Council 1382 participant Wins 1st place at Belleville Diocese level for Grades 3-4!

Joshua Jansen of Carlyle won in the local Council 1382 Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest, for his grade grouping, but also won 1st place at the Belleville Diocese level.  His poster, and potentially others from Carlyle, will move on to the state level competition.  Congratulations Joshua!  See the photo gallery for more pictures!

Christmas Caroling 8 December

Carlyle Council 1382 and others sang Christmas Carols at the Villa Catherine Assisted Living Facility on Thursday 8 Dec.  Blake, Chad, Arnie, Alice, Martha, Bob, Clare, Jim, Rich, Herb and Ron all participated.  See other pictures in the photo gallery.  Thanks to Jim Seiffert for coordinating this effort.. 

Services for Wilfred Kueper

Tootsie Roll Drive Distributions

On Dec. 6, Council 1382 Tootsie Roll Drive Co-chairs Herb Pingsterhaus and Ron Kordick handed out checks to 5 of the 6 charities selected as recipients.  This photo shows Herb presenting a check worth several hundred dollars to Clinton County Advocates from Recreation.  See the photo gallery for photos of all organizations that received 2016 proceeds from Council 1382.

Tootsie Roll Drive Friday & Saturday (16-17 September 2016) Completed Successfully

This year's Tootsie Roll Drive for the Intellectually Disabled brought in over $3000 the first day and about $2000 the second day. Bob L. was the most devoted knight, filling 6 slots for 12 hours of standing at the Posey intersection!  Dennis is shown here with a couple of cuties!

Stan Gezella Farewell

A farewell gathering was held for Stan on July 10, 2016 as he is moving to Affton, MO. Stan served as our 2nd Financial Secretary, after serving as Treasurer and Grand Knight. A gathering was held after 10am mass where Skeetz Dumstorff of the church social committee presented a framed collage from the church, & Mark Hodapp presented a plaque from KofC Council 1382.
